Akrotiri Environmental Training Center is located on a vantage point in Akrotiri area overlooking the salt lake which is a significant wetland.  The development of the Environmental Center was an initiative of the Ministry of Defense of UK to support the environmental educational studies and it was decided after the public unrest and the political disorder caused by the construction of a network of antennas by the British Sovereign Bases at the salt lake.

The design of the project was assigned to A. J. Pericleous LLC in mid-January of 2012 by the JV of contractors, CSP-Interserve, who are a long term services provider at the British Bases in Cyprus.  The vision of the design team was to provide a landmark structure that would not only stand out but also would make people wondering what it is and consequently make them willing to visit the facility.  Furthermore, the building should be energy efficient with low carbon footprint and be rated as Energy Class A, by implementing environmentally sustainable architecture and utilizing renewable energy sources.

Our innovative yet environmental friendly engineering design has definitely impacted greatly and positively the community and has delivered a high standards building that fulfills the Client requirements within the set timeframes and budget restrictions.  The new facility is well received and enjoyed by its operators and the public in general, serving its main purpose to create environmental awareness.

In 2014 our project was selected among more 300 projects from all over the globe and it was shortlisted for the internationally distinguished awards given by the Institution of Structural Engineers of UK, in the category of small engineering practices.
