For the coverage of the needs of integrated management of mixed Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in the wider area of Limassol province, the Ministry of Interior (MOI), acting as the then Contracting Authority, proceeded with the construction of the Integrated Waste Management Unit (IWMU) for household mixed solid waste (MSW) at the location 'Pentakomo' in the Community of Pentakomo. The construction of the IWMU Limassol was completed on 15/05/2017, and since 09/11/2017, the Unit has been fully operational.

The construction of the above infrastructure projects was implemented within the framework of the proposed Actions of the National Waste Management Strategy in Cyprus (2004). The project contributes to the environmental and rational management of the mixed MSW in the wider area of Limassol province, as well as the final disposal of residues at the Sanitary Landfill Site (SLS), resulting from the production processes carried out at the IWMU Waste Processing Facility.
